Namaste everyone 🙏 Today is the Punyatithi of the pitamahah of Karnataka Shastriya Sangeeta, Shri Purandaradasa.
Shri Purandaradasa's contribution to Carnatic music is immense. The methodology that is employed in teaching/learning carnatic music as of today was developed & systematized by him.
Shri Purandaradasa developed techniques for the most basic beginner to the most advanced expert.
Shri Purandaradasa composed most of his work when the Vijayanagara Empire was at its absolute zenith in the mid 15th century.
Shri Purandara Dasa was a contemporary of Shri Krishnadevaraya, who invited him to his capital at Hampi & built a Japashala for him.
Shri Purandara Dasa attained mukthi at Hampi on this day in the year 1564, a year prior to the battle at Talikota which would lead to the destruction of Hampi
This is the Purandara Mantapa at Hampi on the banks of the TungaBhadra river, where he composed some of his divine music.
PS: Today is Purandara Dasa Punyadina.
Remembering the Pitamaha of Carnatic Music or South Indian classical music 🙏
