“Salutations to the one who installed Yajnamurthy”
Yajnamurthy was an illustrious Advaita master. He challenged Sri Ramanuja concerning the veracity of Vishishtadvaita. Sri Ramanuja tried to establish the supremacy of Vishishtadvaita on logical grounds in the Vaada style in an assembly of scholars. Yajnamurthy started assailing Sri Ramanuja mercilessly. The debate continued for eighteen days. On the last day, Sri Ramanuja prostrated before his personal deity, Lord Devaraja, and passed on the onus of convincing Yajnamurthy to the Lord. The next day, when Sri Ramanuja arrived for the debate, Yajnamurthy fell at the feet of Sri Ramanuja for Lord Varada has chastised him in his dream. Sri Ramanuja acknowledged the scholarship of Yajnamurthy and accepted him as his disciple naming him ‘Arulalaperumal Emberumanar’.
प्रतिष्ठात्र means ‘installer’ or ‘establisher’.
