“Salutations to him who considered his sister's son (Dasarathi/Mudaliyandan) as his sacred triple staff (Tridhanda)”
Among the countless disciples of Sri Ramanuja, Sri Dasarathi is counted the foremost. Dasarathi stood by Sri Ramanuja throughout his life in thick and thin. Ramanuja never went alone without Dasarathi and Kuresha. Both these were his inseperable companions. Like a Sanyasi always carries the Tridanda and the Kamandalu with him, Sri Ramanuja took Dasarathi and Kuresha everywhere along with him. Even when Tirukkottiyur Nambi asked Sri Ramanuja to come alone to receive 'Mantropadesham' in privacy, it is said that Sri Ramanuja took both of them along saying that he would not give up his Tridanda and Kamandalu. Such was their intimacy!
भागिनेय means sister's son. त्रिदण्डक stands for serving as Tridhanda.
